Welcome to the Hillbrook Library, an important part of Hillbrook's learning community. ObjectivesOur core objective is to provide resource services to all members of the school community. We support and enhance teaching and learning by the provision of comprehensive and up-to-date resources. We work with teachers to promote information literacy and actively engage students in recreational reading. StaffingLoris Phair (Teacher Librarian), and staff, Lynette, Rosanne and Melanie work with students and teachers to provide services which meet their information and other resource needs.
CollectionsAn extensive curriculum collection of print material is supplemented with access to audio and video programmes and a collection of evaluated web sites. We also subscribe to a number of electronic databases. Access is available to over 750 journals covering a full range of subjects with ANZ Reference Centre. Other databases include: World Book, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Library Webs, Weblinks and subject specific e-resources.
We have an excellent collection of fiction for junior and adult readers and community members are encouraged to borrow. Wide ReadingHillbrook has a well-established reading program which caters for all our students, but most particularly for the junior school. The middle years are highly important for developing strong reading habits and then building on them in senior school. Our Wide Reading Program aims to encourage both reading for information and reading for pleasure. The Wide Reading program is an on-going liaison between the English Department and the Library. Your child will participate in a weekly ‘reading lesson' in Year 8 and a fortnightly lesson in Year 9. Different activities are undertaken each term to broaden and encourage their reading habits. These include author and illustrator visits, trips to Literature Festivals and extension activities, such as bookclubs and competitions.
