St Paul’s School on Tuesday 23 May from 7pm – 8:30pm
Acclaimed Australian author, columnist and speaker Rebecca Sparrow teams up with radio and online personalities Lise Carlaw and Sarah Wills of Those Two Girls for a non-judgemental evening of information, practical advice, and stories to demystify and discuss social media for tweens, teens, and their parents.
Rebecca Sparrow has been speaking about friendship, resilience, values and leadership since 2003. In that time, she has shared her insights to more than 100,000 high school students across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Her best-selling books have become modern go-to guides for teenage girls across the country, with Mia Freedman (MAMAMIA) and Lisa Wilkinson (Channel Nine) praising Bec’s work and contribution to today’s generation of young women. Her new book for teen boys, featuring advice from high-profile Australian men, will be available in December 2017.
Topics covered in the 60-minute presentation include:
* Social media – what age and why?
* Naked selfies – minimising risk and how to say no
* Consent – what does it mean and how does it apply
* Household technology rules – a few ideas to get you started
* SOS – what to do and whom to call when things go wrong.
Hosted and moderated by HIT105’s weekend breakfast show hosts Those Two Girls, Lise and Sarah bring to the table their own experiences online, from the perspective of social media users and consumers, and also as parents. Together, they will ask the questions parents want to know, and encourage the audience to pick Bec’s brain in a no-holds barred Q&A.
This unique and timely event presents an opportunity for parents to open up the lines of communication with their tweens and/or teens and arm themselves with helpful knowledge to steer a safe and enjoyable passage through the murky waters of social media.
