In Week 5 (15 – 19 May), we welcome our second annual Philosopher in Residence, Prof. Stephan Millett. Stephan is a former newspaper editor, journalism academic and school teacher. He pioneered the introduction of philosophy into schools in Western Australia and we look forward to hearing his ideas at Hillbrook.
We are also excited to welcome Thomas E. Wartenberg. Thomas will visit Hillbrook, from the USA, on the Monday of our Philosopher in Residence week. He is currently Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College and his main areas of focus are aesthetics, the philosophy of film, and philosophy for children. His website, teachingchildrenphilosophy.org, was awarded the 2011 APA/PDC Prize for Excellence and Innovations in Philosophy Programs.
Following the success of our Philosophical Inquiry evening last year, we will hold a parent evening with Prof. Stephan Millett on Thursday 18 May. The topic will be: Ethics, Obligation and a Free Ride. All parents need to bring is an open mind and a willingness to generously consider the ideas of others. It is sure to be another fun and challenging night! More event information and RSVP details coming soon!
