Year 12 Information

Year 12 External Assessment

External assessments will be held annually in Term 4, starting in 2020. The 2020 external assessments will be held from Monday 26 October to Tuesday 17 November.

The 2020 external assessment timetable has been designed to:

  • Minimise clashes for students across the 17 days of external assessments. Where there is a clash within a morning or afternoon session, students will be allocated to the alternative session on the same day
  • Ensure students sit no more than two external assessments on one day
  • Provide sufficient breaks between external assessments for popular courses and frequently combined courses
  • Enable all external assessments to be marked in time for students to receive their final Year 12 results.

Year 12 Internal Assessment

Updated information:

Following the QCAA’s announcement to remove one internal assessment item in Year 12, we’ve put together a summary of the Internal Assessment items being assessed at Hillbrook for each subject.  This is so that you can quickly see the items that will and won’t be assessed this year. Click here to view the list.

We are yet to receive advice about the weighting of assessment items, but will share this with you as soon as available.

During the last few days of Term 1, the QCAA communicated its intention to remove one internal assessment from the total of four prescribed in each syllabus.  This was to provide some relief for students as they contend with uncertainty and disruption while working towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) in 2020.  This was also to support teachers to manage reduced classroom time.

At that time, we communicated this directly with students so that they were aware of this change.

During the Student Free Days of the last week of Term 1, the QCAA notified and advised schools which Internal Assessment in each subject was to be removed.

The QCAA issued a subject-specific direction on the nature and timing of the next Internal Assessment, as well as advice on how to manage the removal of this assessment item.  We have worked through this information and teachers in each subject will explain this to all Year 12 students upon their return to learning in Term 2.

This development means that final subject results in General subjects will be calculated from two Internal Assessments and one External Assessment. In Essential Mathematics, it will be two Internal Assessments and a Common Internal Assessment developed by the QCAA.  In Industrial Technology Skills, it will be three Internal Assessments.

The QCAA are yet to communicate the weighting for the remaining Internal Assessments and will share this information in due course.  We will communicate this with students and parents when it becomes available.
